Guide Dogs policy

Policy Requirements

Guide Dogs, Hearing Assistance Dogs and all other assistance animals cannot access Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary (other than in the designated area) due to animal welfare regulations for our marine animals, and public safety.

Assistance animals kept in the designated area must be registered as an assistance animal and owners must produce a valid document for that animal.

Designated Area – Admissions area (animals are supervised by our admissions team and water is provided for the animal’s comfort).

Animal Welfare

The health and welfare of our animals at Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary are our highest priorities. Stringent programs and processes are in place to ensure optimal animal welfare. Quarantine is vital in disease prevention for any collection of animals and strict measures control animal movements in and out of the premises.

All animals entering Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary (other than the designated area) must be quarantined for a minimum of 30 days before access to grounds and other animals is permitted.

All quarantined animals have undergone a period of disease testing relevant to that species, and if granted access to the park have been found to be disease-free and of no risk to our resident animals.

In general, no non-quarantined animals may enter the park, with the exception of the designated area.

Guests who leave their assistance animal in the designated area can be accompanied by a carer free of charge.

Public Safety

Many species at Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary are listed on the designated dangerous species list and therefore precautions must be taken to ensure animal and human safety.

Many of our animals are exercised throughout the sanctuary grounds daily (accompanied by a team member) and therefore may be out of their enclosures at any time throughout opening hours. Exercise schedules are varied daily to provide variety for our animals and therefore times are subject to change without notice.

With this is mind, it is unsafe for our animals, visitor’s animals, our team and visitors to have any other animals present at any time.

Note: This policy also applies to all pet animals. Water will be provided in the designated area.
